Care to elaborate on how the org went bust? I'm also curious about the teaching techniques they used... We're they mind controlling like the WT?

STOP MAKING CRAP UP!
by Sheep2slaughter ini had to start this thread in light of today's watchtower study.
in paragraph 14,15 they mention the grounds for separation.
no scriptures are sighted but i am well aware of the support they usually use.. i am so sick of the watchtower making crap up!

Soo biblical morality=knowing exactly how and when to beat your slave/maidservant/wife and how much. Just not with a rod... Remember jehovah of armies hates violence!
Honestly though aside from the dogmatic "principles", shitty examples and poor advice, today's WT study wasn't all that bad!
That one statement about a spouse's spiritual endangerment being grounds for separation had me steaming... Because that could easily happen if my wife were to tell an elder about the "spiritual discussions" we have.

Books or exercises to learn critical thinking
by Captain Obvious ini was sitting at the meeting this morning (yes, still keeping up appearances), listening to the speaker and trying to understand his lack of logic.
his talk was about education.
he seemed all over the place, not really making proper points.

I was sitting at the meeting this morning (yes, still keeping up appearances), listening to the speaker and trying to understand his lack of logic. His talk was about education. He seemed all over the place, not really making proper points. But he did mention that early childhood education helps them to think logically...
Then I realized that my critical thinking skills.... Well they suck. I am a born-in, and have never had the opportunity to learn logical or critical thinking skills. If I had, you better believe I would have never been baptized. I am still a sucker for logical fallacies, though I am slowly learning to spot them. They just don't jump out at me like they do for some people.
Can anyone recommend a book or excercise that myself and others can read or do to develop these skills?

Welcome cog!
Have you looked into Steve Hassan's work at all? I recommend Combatting Cult Mind Control.

The biggest enemy the Watchtower Corporation faces now is "The Truth"
by Finkelstein inthats my opinion because the wts really has been preaching false information now for so long about the end times and armageddon soon.. also the doctrine that jesus chirt has taken a position over his earthly and heavenly kingdom in 1914 .... etc.
its been a winfall marketing scheme for such a long time, which now really doesn't have much leg to stand on.. time in conjunction with reality has made the wts's doctrines redundantly weak or useless more or less.. i'm even believing the leaders of the wts are even starting to know this for themselves.. the wts future and its main supporting pieces of literature, the watchtower and awake magazines may eventually be tossed aside.
for some new doctrines as well newly named pieces of literature .

Unfortunately, while some may wake up... The org will continue to grow. It is a cult, after all. I honestly believe that if the GB were to come out and say "HA! Its all bullshit, suckas!" there would still be many who would believe.
Even if there is a major shift in doctrine, they will just push harder for obedience to "God's Organization" and be even MORE black and white. All we can do is try to get our loved ones to wake up. That isn't easy when a person doesn't have any logical reasoning skills whatsoever. I'm now fully awake, but I still lack these skills.
Lets just hope more bad PR will get the public more aware of the dangers of joining the cult "Jehovah's earthly organization."

Was immediately kicked out of their house. Like a few minutes after.
Only in a cult could you see parents make a split second decision to suddenly turn their backs on their son. Hopefully it's jus the cult programming at work! Thanks for sharing your story.

I've always showed up late or just in time... Even when I was a believer. Never got asked to drive anyone! I'd say that's second best to not going at all.

Ten Years From Now .......
by Phizzy inwhat with the very low baptism rate, many leaving, many waking up and staying in for now, but not "zealous" any more, the wt/jw religion/scam is without doubt moribund.. i do not foresee a sudden end to the wt but what will it look llike in ten years time ??.
the late teens/early twenty year olds of today will i think be very thin on the ground as 30 year old jw's, so my view is that in ten years time it will be mainly old hardcore ones ,50 yr old and up, and even they will be aware that the org.
is dying..

You are all wrong....
Satan's present wicked system of things will have passed! Giving way to Christ's foretold thousand year reign. Are we not grateful to our loving God Jehovah for drawing us to his earthly organization? (applause) Are we not ever more motivate to share this good news with everyone we can? (applause) So let us then be ever more vigilant in our ministry, proving Satan a liar and doing God's will.

How many fingers am I holding up?

shucks, where's Blondie this week?
by stillin ini don't see her review of today's study article.
the "experience" of the person who was shunned by his family until he got himself reinstated really bothered me.
no mention of repentance, no mention of his wanting to restore worship of jehovah back into his life.

I was hoping to read her comments on the WT study before I went to the meeting. It wasn't just that one paragraph though..... There were many points in that study that were ridiculous. Some of the comments.... Wow. Faithful slave this, God's organization that... A real eye roller.
And to think, we used to sit there every Sunday and hear the exact same thing... Nod our heads in agreement, and maybe even throw up a comment or two just to show how "spiritually strong" we were. Barf.
After a full wake up, studies like today's are hard to stomach. I hope nobody notices the faces I was making! I couldn't help it.
Of course we can't expect Blondie to just be a WT comment machine.... Maybe she is just busy? I'm really interested to find out her thoughts on today's WT. I think there were a couple of threads a while ago about this WT, no? I'll do a search.
